Decoration coaching: how to create sustainable decoration in a rural environment?

In this blog post, we take a look at some elements of the creative process, including the 3D plan, for this remote decorating coaching project in the DRCongo.

In this blog post, discover some elements of the creative process, including photos of the 3D plan, for this interior design coaching project, carried out remotely, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

This week, we take you through the creation of a 3D plan for an airport terminal project in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The client called on the Maison Ditaba team to help design the interior and exterior of a professional space: an airport terminal in a rural setting.

We're going to share with you a few elements of the creative process behind this remote decorating coaching:

  • How we designed the exterior of the space

  • How the interior of the space was designed

1. Sustainable decorating coaching: how the space's exterior has been designed

A fence, palm trees and sculptures

We thought about fencing off the terminal to prevent intruders. A bamboo fence was placed all around. A gate has also been added to make everything more secure. This is fixed between two columns, which are not made of bamboo but of brick. On the outside, we thought about adding some decoration, including an avenue of palm trees, a giraffe and two okapis as wooden sculpture guides. Sustainable decoration coaching.

Tinted plaster to replace paint

As an alternative to paint on the facade wall, it was proposed to replace the paint with tinted plaster. The advantage is that, unlike paint, tinted plaster is highly resistant to bad weather, particularly heavy rain.

2. How was the interior layout of the space designed

Wood, wicker and rattan

We thought of something simple, pretty and functional, using only materials that could be found locally. These include wood, wicker and rattan.

For the counter area, we suggested using solid wood. It should be noted that in order to preserve the wood in the long term, it was advisable to treat it to prevent it being eaten away by insects, in particular by varnishing it.

Tiles for the floor

Tiling was proposed for the floor, as it was the most suitable and durable solution for a venue that welcomes the public and requires very little maintenance.

Wicker wall dividers and decorations

A separation was also proposed, to differentiate the public area from the VIP area. For this area, as you can see from the photos, a refrigerated cupboard was added on the 3D plan. A wicker wall decoration has also been placed on the walls. As a change from the benches, and for greater comfort, it was decided to offer wicker or rattan armchairs with small side tables, to be placed either for each armchair or at the end of each line of armchairs.

So whether it's a question of :

  • the choice of colours,

  • choice of materials

  • and the choice of furniture,

the aim of this decoration project was to propose :

  • a 3D plan that would take into account the rural environment in which the terminal is located. This was achieved in particular through the exterior design, with tinted plaster chosen instead of paint.

  • the possibility of using materials from the Democratic Republic of Congo.

And there you have it, you now know (almost 🙂 ) everything about how to create sustainable decoration in a rural environment!
