In this new blog post, I (Marie-Laure) am going to tell you all about the renovation, design and decoration choices that led me to create an attractive and functional space for my kitchen:

1. White kitchen and wood: what were the requirements
When I moved into my new house, the kitchen was not at all functional:
there was little storage space,
It was a through kitchen: there were two doors. One led to the entrance to the house and the other led directly to the living room.
It was quite practical, but it didn't suit me because my kitchen is quite small. There are a lot of us at home. So I wanted :
kitchen where we could eat every day.
A predominantly white kitchen. The space is small, so I wanted to make it bigger.
A kitchen with high and low storage units.
To bring a warm, modern feel, while remaining classic and timeless.
To use materials that would optimise the maintenance and cleanliness of my kitchen.

2. The creative process: renovating, fitting out, decorating
So we had to optimise the space in order to achieve a layout that made this possible. The creative process for the white and wood kitchen was divided into several stages of renovation, layout and decoration:
Renovating the kitchen
We called in the kitchen specialist Cuisinella from the Schmidt group.
We decided to close off the door leading to the living room by putting a wall in front of it where our fridge is. We therefore kept only the door leading to the entrance.
Designing and decorating the kitchen
To add a modern touch, we've used a trendy extractor hood and an induction hob.
The oven and microwave are built-in.
I was very hesitant about the fridge. I wanted a built-in fridge, but as they're quite small, I preferred to keep a non-recessed fridge, as I do my shopping in bulk. I chose to go for volume rather than appearance.
The table, which I also use as a work surface, is made of wood. It's exactly the same wood as the other worktop and the base units. The legs of the wooden table are made of steel.
The white tiles on the wall: this is a white metro splashback. Although I like marble splashbacks, I didn't think they would go very well with wood.
The floor is an imitation parquet tiled floor. I chose tiles for their durability and parquet imitation for their warmth.
The transparent chairs are PVC, found on Amazon. I added black PVC stools to match some of the accessories (hood and hob).
The anthracite grey blinds, which are close to black, were chosen instead of the curtains for a trendy, modern feel. I may well put up curtains later!

3. White and wood kitchens: predominant colours and materials
Here are the predominant colours and materials in my kitchen:
wood for warmth and ease of maintenance,
white to make the space look bigger and brighter,
steel, anthracite grey and black and the electrical accessories for a slightly modern touch.
